Karpagame 58:38 Madurai Mani Iyer (Tamil: மதுரை மணி ஐயர்) (October 25, 1912 – June 8, 1968) was a Carnatic music singer, who was famous for his unique style. He was one of the most highly celebrated carnatic vocalists during the first half of the 20th century. He was renowned for his adept skills at singing kalpana swarams, neraval, and raga alapana. Madurai Mani Iyer, whose original name was Subramanian, was born to M. S. Ramaswamy Iyer and Subbulakshmi in Madurai on October 25, 1912. His father, a Sub-court Clerk, was the brother of the famous Vidwan Pushpavanam, who was a great classical musician himself. He received many awards like The Ganakaladharar in 1944, Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1959, President's award in 1960, Isai Perarignar in 1962 and many more came his way. Madurai Mani Iyer was indeed passionate about music but he had other interests too and one of them was the English language. Though a school drop out, Mani Iyer mastered this language and an anecdote goes that he would trudge from his house in Mylapore all the way to the Connemara Library to pick up books in the Queen's language. He loved Bernard Shaw and was a fan of Charlie Chaplin. Song Details 1.Vida Jalatura Singer - Madurai Mani Iyer Lyrics & Tunes - Thyagaraja 2. For Audio cd: For mp3: Ragamrutham - G. N. Balasubramaniam - 4ACD Live at Mysore -1957 with T.Chowdiah C.S.Murugabhoopathy G.N.Balasubramaniam, one of the greatest legends and superstars of Carnatic Music, enthralled and mesmerized the old and the young by his unique fluid voice and by his exceptional music. This magnificent concert showcases his refreshing and immaculate style of music impregnated with novel ideas, scintillating Brikas and striking Sangathis. His golden voice with its rich timbre captivates the listener beyond imagination. He was a trailblazer and his music is immortal. In this superb concert, he has rendered an enchanting Kalyani, followed by a beautiful composition of Thyagaraja. An imaginative portrayal of Suddha Saveri followed by his masterpiece Dharini thelusu with the cascade of Sangathis flowing like an endless river. A soul stirring Kanada followed by Sukhi Evaro add color to this concert. The highlight of this concert is a peerless rendering of RTP in the Raga Bhairavi. The Ragamalika Viruttam is exquisite. The combination of GNB and the legendary violinist from Karnataka, T.Chowdiah and the rapport they shared on stage was incredible. The accompaniments for this glorious concert are T.Chowdiah and C.S.Murugabhoopathy another legendary mridangam artist of yester years. The raga delineations by both the legends are very explorative and complimentary to each other. The Thaniavarthanam gives a wholesome effect to this spell binding concert. This concert is from the private collection of the GNB family.

Needhaya 58:51 Kakarla Tyagabrahmam Telugu (Telugu: త్యాగరాజు) (4 May 1767 – 6 January 1847), also known as Tyāgayya in Telugu, Tyāgarājarin Tamil, was one of the greatest composers of Carnatic music or Indian classical music. He was a prolific composer and highly influential in the development of the classical music tradition. Tyagaraja composed thousands of devotional compositions, most in praise of Lord Rama, many of which remain popular today. Of special mention are five of his compositions called the Pancharatna Kirtis(English: "five gems"), which are often sung in programs in his honour. Tyāgarāja was born in 1767 in Tiruvarur, Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu, to Kakarla Ramabrahma and Sitamma in a Telugu Brahmin family. His family belonged to the smarta tradition and Bhardvajasa gotra. He was named Tyagabrahmam/Tyagaraja afterTyagaraja, the presiding deity of the temple at Tiruvarur. Tyāgarāja began his musical training under Sonti Venkata Ramanayya, a music scholar, at an early age. He regarded music as a way to experience God's love. Out of 24,000 songs said to have been composed by him, about 700 songs remain now. In addition to nearly 700 compositions (kritis), Tyagaraja composed two musical plays in Telugu, the Prahalada Bhakti Vijayam and the Nauka Charitam. Prahlada Bhakti Vijayam is in five acts with 45 kritis set in 28 ragas and 138 verses, in different metres in Telugu. Tyagaraja Aradhana, the commemorative music festival is held every year at Thiruvaiyaru in the months of January to February in Tyagaraja's honour. This is a week-long festival of music where various Carnatic musicians from all over the world converge at his resting place. On the Pushya Bahula Panchami, thousands of people and hundreds of Carnatic musicians sing the five Pancharatna Kritis in unison, with the accompaniment of a large bank of accompanists on veenas, violins, flutes, nadasvarams, mridangams and ghatams. ==Song Details== Song - Shobhillu Sapthaswara Arist - P.Unnikrishnan Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Brova Barama Arist - Neyveli R.Santhanagopalan Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Etiyochanalu Arist - Sudha Ragunathan Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Bakthuni Charithrumu Arist - S.Sowmya Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Marugelara Arist - Sankaran Nambudiri Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Ma Paala Velasi Arist - Raji Gopalakrishnan Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Juthamurare Arist - S.P.Ramh Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Vidajaladur Arist - T.M.Krishna Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Ramabhakthi Arist - S.Gayathri Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Bala Kanaka Maya Arist - Sangeetha Sivakumar Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Needhaya Arist - Sanjay Subrahmanyan Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Label - INRECO For More log on

GNBs Parama Krupa Saagari in Yadukula Kambhoji and Roopaka

The superb vocalist GN Balasubramaniam was also an immensely gifted composer. In a bright, young lifetime, GNB composed at least 250 krithis in Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu, but was so humble that he hardly ever sang own compositions. Numerous other musicians love to render them, however, including from non-GNB Baanis; we listeners are set for hundreds of years. Here is a rare occasion GNB renders one of his Sanskrit compositions [Parama Kripa Saagari, Paahi Parameshwari] in Raaga [Yadukula Kambhoji]. The year is 1964, about a year before the end, and GNB is reunited in Bombay with his accompanists from the decade of his ascendance, the 1940s. Mysore Chowdiah on the Violin and Palghat Mani Iyer on the Mridangam. Also, Pudukottai Swaminatha Pillai is on the Kanjeera and I do not know which student provided vocal support, but GNB seems to be quite comfortable on his own.

    Tanjore S kalyanaraman - Live Concert 1974

Song Detail: Niravadhi Sukhada - Ravichandri For Audio Cd: For Mp3: Tanjore S.Kalyanaraman Live in concert 1974 Born in a family of musicians, Tanjore S. Kalyanaraman had his initial training in music from his father Srinivasa Iyer. He honed his immense talent under the illustrious legend G.N. Balasubramaniam, a rage among musicians in those days. This wonderful combination of musical heritage and intensive training under a musical genius helped Kalyanaraman master the art. He was easily one of the best disciples of GNB in that, he imbibed the assets of his guru and gave it a stamp of originality too. He was a good composer himself. His felicity to render rare and vivadi ragas is unparalleled. He was one of the most versatile musicians the carnatic music world has ever seen. Accompanying SKR on the violin is the maestro M.S.Gopalakrishnan. A top ranking violinist, outstanding soloist and accompanist, MSG has been in the music arena for over 50 years playing both Hindustani and Carnatic Music. On the mridangam is the all time great revolutionary artiste Karaikudi Mani, a genius in his own right and a trail blazer among percussionists, who has been reigning the concert platform for over 55 years. This recording has a brilliant and expansive exposition of Shanmukhapriya followed by the kriti "Mamava Karunaya" , a composition of Swathi Thirunal and a crisp, yet comprehensive sketch of Kedaragowla followed by the evergreen "Venugana" composed by Thyagaraja. A superb rendition of Chandrajyothi (Bagayanayya composed by Thyagaraja) reveals SKRs penchant for rare and vivadi ragas. The hallmark of this concert is the scholarly RTP in 4 ragas namely Ranjani, Manoranjani, Janaranjani and Sriranjani in combination with spontaneous repartees from the violin maestro MSG, both complimenting each others eloquent Manodharma. A sparkling Tani Avarthanam by the great Karaikudi Mani is an added attraction to this concert.

Phone-044-28297564,044-28297175 Movie :Avargal Director : K. Balachander Starring Sujatha,Kamal Hassan,Rajinikanth,Leelavathi,Ravi Kumar,Kumari Padmini, Kutti Padmini Music: MS. Viswanathan Release date : 1977 Country : India Language :Tamil The movie revolves around the trials and tribulations of Anu (Sujatha). Anu is a happy-go-lucky girl head-over-heels in love with her boyfriend. Her life changes when her father gets transferred to Mumbai (then Bombay). Her love life falls apart as her boy friend doesn't respond to any of her letters. In addition, her father becomes seriously ill. Her father's office colleague, Ramanathan (Rajnikanth), becomes a great source of strength for her in these tough times. Soon, he asks for her hand in marriage. She accepts gratefully, and confesses that she had a boyfriend, who has seemingly forgotten her. However, she soon realizes the truth about Ramanathan. He is a sadistic and jealous husband, who tortures her no end and, not unsurprisingly, she opts for a divorce. As a divorced woman, with an infant in her hands, she lands in Chennai (Madras) to take up a new job and start a new life. Her life takes a turn for the better in Chennai as she has a very supportive friend-group in her office, particularly a widower, Janardhan (Kamal Hassan). Janardhan, or Johnnie as he is popularly called, is a talented ventriloquist who "talks" through his puppet, Junior. He falls in love with Anu, but is unable to muster up the courage to tell her about it. In an interesting cinematic twist, her ex-husband's mother discovers her presence in the city and takes up a job as a maid in her house. Anu also stumbles upon her old lover in Chennai and discovers that her letters to him never reached as they were intercepted by his mentally-challenged sister. Soon, Anu renews her relationship with her old love and life seems to be looking up for her. But the ghosts of the past continue to haunt her. Ramanathan comes to Chennai in the role of her boss -- a contrite and repentant Ramanathan, who now wants to re-marry Anu and redress the wrongs he had done. The situation becomes piquant with 3 men vying for Anu -- her ex-love, her ex-husband and a silent lover lurking on the sidelines. Which way will Anu go? K. Balachander takes the movie to its logical, yet completely radical and unexpected, end

    Symphony No. 9 ~ Beethoven

Hello everyone! A YouTuber by the name of Michael Kirkman sent me who performed this wonderful version of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. So, basque in the heavenly glory... Original message he sent: "Found this on Wikipedia so it must be true: In 1960, [Josef] Krips recorded Beethoven's nine symphonies for Everest Records. For this set of recordings, Krips conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, and for the Symphony No. 9, the soloists included Donald Bell, baritone, Jennifer Vyvyan, soprano, Rudolf Petrak, tenor, and Shirley Carter (later known as Shirley Verrett), mezzo soprano. The BBC Chorus, under the chorusmaster Leslie Woodgate also performed. This series of recordings was popular with music critics and the public, and the recordings have been reissued several times in authorized and in bootleg editions. If, as I think it is, this is the 9th that you uploaded, it has a great pedigree and some wonderful soloists! Thanks." London Symphony Orchestra, cond. Josef Krips Soloists: Jennifer Vyvyan (EDIT), Soprano Shirley Verret, Mezzo-Soprano Rudolph Petrak, Tenor Donaldson Bell, Bass
