Needhaya 58:51 Kakarla Tyagabrahmam Telugu (Telugu: త్యాగరాజు) (4 May 1767 – 6 January 1847), also known as Tyāgayya in Telugu, Tyāgarājarin Tamil, was one of the greatest composers of Carnatic music or Indian classical music. He was a prolific composer and highly influential in the development of the classical music tradition. Tyagaraja composed thousands of devotional compositions, most in praise of Lord Rama, many of which remain popular today. Of special mention are five of his compositions called the Pancharatna Kirtis(English: "five gems"), which are often sung in programs in his honour. Tyāgarāja was born in 1767 in Tiruvarur, Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu, to Kakarla Ramabrahma and Sitamma in a Telugu Brahmin family. His family belonged to the smarta tradition and Bhardvajasa gotra. He was named Tyagabrahmam/Tyagaraja afterTyagaraja, the presiding deity of the temple at Tiruvarur. Tyāgarāja began his musical training under Sonti Venkata Ramanayya, a music scholar, at an early age. He regarded music as a way to experience God's love. Out of 24,000 songs said to have been composed by him, about 700 songs remain now. In addition to nearly 700 compositions (kritis), Tyagaraja composed two musical plays in Telugu, the Prahalada Bhakti Vijayam and the Nauka Charitam. Prahlada Bhakti Vijayam is in five acts with 45 kritis set in 28 ragas and 138 verses, in different metres in Telugu. Tyagaraja Aradhana, the commemorative music festival is held every year at Thiruvaiyaru in the months of January to February in Tyagaraja's honour. This is a week-long festival of music where various Carnatic musicians from all over the world converge at his resting place. On the Pushya Bahula Panchami, thousands of people and hundreds of Carnatic musicians sing the five Pancharatna Kritis in unison, with the accompaniment of a large bank of accompanists on veenas, violins, flutes, nadasvarams, mridangams and ghatams. ==Song Details== Song - Shobhillu Sapthaswara Arist - P.Unnikrishnan Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Brova Barama Arist - Neyveli R.Santhanagopalan Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Etiyochanalu Arist - Sudha Ragunathan Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Bakthuni Charithrumu Arist - S.Sowmya Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Marugelara Arist - Sankaran Nambudiri Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Ma Paala Velasi Arist - Raji Gopalakrishnan Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Juthamurare Arist - S.P.Ramh Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Vidajaladur Arist - T.M.Krishna Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Ramabhakthi Arist - S.Gayathri Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Bala Kanaka Maya Arist - Sangeetha Sivakumar Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Song - Needhaya Arist - Sanjay Subrahmanyan Lyr & Comp - Thyagaraja Label - INRECO For More log on

The very word "Carnatic" means traditional or ancient. However, the application of the term Carnatic to this form of music is more recent than the music itself! Here we discuss the elements of change and continuity in this traditional form of classical music in India. Carnatic music is a melody-based system. The basic elements of śruti (the relative musical pitch), swara (the musical sound of a single note), rāga (the mode or melodic formulæ), and tala (the rhythmic cycles) form the foundation of improvisation and composition in both Carnatic and Hindustani music.

Bhaja Govindam M.S. Subbulakshmi Devanagari Sanskrit English translations.wmv

A South Indian classical based enjoyable devotional song on Govinda. "Bhaja Govindam" Slokas are provided in Devanagari Sanskrit with English translations. About "Bhaja Govindam" (meaning "Chant Govinda" - another name for Lord Krishna): The Phrase itself and main verses in this song are believed to have been written by Adi Shankaracharya though this rendering contains only a few of the verses in the rather long composition called "Bhaja Govindam". Many verses of Bhaja Govindam are attributed to various disciples of Adi Shankara written over different points of time.

    Symphony No. 9 ~ Beethoven

Hello everyone! A YouTuber by the name of Michael Kirkman sent me who performed this wonderful version of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. So, basque in the heavenly glory... Original message he sent: "Found this on Wikipedia so it must be true: In 1960, [Josef] Krips recorded Beethoven's nine symphonies for Everest Records. For this set of recordings, Krips conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, and for the Symphony No. 9, the soloists included Donald Bell, baritone, Jennifer Vyvyan, soprano, Rudolf Petrak, tenor, and Shirley Carter (later known as Shirley Verrett), mezzo soprano. The BBC Chorus, under the chorusmaster Leslie Woodgate also performed. This series of recordings was popular with music critics and the public, and the recordings have been reissued several times in authorized and in bootleg editions. If, as I think it is, this is the 9th that you uploaded, it has a great pedigree and some wonderful soloists! Thanks." London Symphony Orchestra, cond. Tanjore S kalyanaraman - Live Concert 1974

Song Detail: Niravadhi Sukhada - Ravichandri For Audio Cd: For Mp3: Tanjore S.Kalyanaraman Live in concert 1974 Born in a family of musicians, Tanjore S. Kalyanaraman had his initial training in music from his father Srinivasa Iyer. He honed his immense talent under the illustrious legend G.N. Balasubramaniam, a rage among musicians in those days. This wonderful combination of musical heritage and intensive training under a musical genius helped Kalyanaraman master the art. He was easily one of the best disciples of GNB in that, he imbibed the assets of his guru and gave it a stamp of originality too. He was a good composer himself. His felicity to render rare and vivadi ragas is unparalleled. He was one of the most versatile musicians the carnatic music world has ever seen. Accompanying SKR on the violin is the maestro M.S.Gopalakrishnan. A top ranking violinist, outstanding soloist and accompanist, MSG has been in the music arena for over 50 years playing both Hindustani and Carnatic Music. On the mridangam is the all time great revolutionary artiste Karaikudi Mani, a genius in his own right and a trail blazer among percussionists, who has been reigning the concert platform for over 55 years. This recording has a brilliant and expansive exposition of Shanmukhapriya followed by the kriti "Mamava Karunaya" , a composition of Swathi Thirunal and a crisp, yet comprehensive sketch of Kedaragowla followed by the evergreen "Venugana" composed by Thyagaraja. A superb rendition of Chandrajyothi (Bagayanayya composed by Thyagaraja) reveals SKRs penchant for rare and vivadi ragas. The hallmark of this concert is the scholarly RTP in 4 ragas namely Ranjani, Manoranjani, Janaranjani and Sriranjani in combination with spontaneous repartees from the violin maestro MSG, both complimenting each others eloquent Manodharma. A sparkling Tani Avarthanam by the great Karaikudi Mani is an added attraction to this concert.
