    JAMES announce December UK tour

    3:29

    Tim Booth and Jim Glennie from James take some time to tell us about their December UK tour and new album before they perform in Liverpool. This short video contains exclusive live tracks from the bands concert at Liverpool University on Saturday 17th April 2010.

    THE NIGHT BEFORE THE MORNING AFTER TOUR DECEMBER 2010
    Plus special guests The Pigeon Detectives*

    THE NIGHT BEFORE MINI ALBUM OUT 19TH APRIL 2010
    One of the strongest efforts of their career The Guardian 4 Stars 16/4/10

    After just finishing a sell out tour across the country James will be returning this December for a 7 date jaunt around the UK starting at London HMV Hammersmith Apollo on Thursday 9th and ending at Manchester Evening News Arena on Saturday 18th. James will be joined on tour by special guests The Pigeon Detectives.

    With a career that includes 10 studio albums, twenty UK Top 40 singles and 12 million albums sold James have also released the first of two mini albums. Titled The Night Before the mini album will be released on April 19th and it contains all brand new studio material from the 7 piece band. Produced by Lee Muddy Baker (who produced Hey Ma as well as Booths solo album Bone in 2004), The Night Before seems fearless in comparison to its predecessors, a product, no doubt, of the way it was conceived: the band set up an ftp site to which they all contributed, downloading and updating each others efforts at various intervals whilst Baker knocked things into shape. This virtual recording process was inspired by the bands history of working with Brian Eno and has brought out the best in James, the results proving as diverse and intriguing as anything the band have attempted before. The full mini album track listing is:

    1. It's Hot
    2. Crazy
    3. Ten Below
    4. Porcupine
    5. Shine
    6. Dr Hellier
    7. Hero

    After the recent UK tour the band intend to spend five days recording naturally and playing together in a big room with no overdubs and with a view to capturing something spontaneous. This will make up the second part of the mini album to be released on August 2nd and it will be entitled The Morning After. They will also be spending the summer playing at many of the worlds biggest festivals, including the Isle of Wight Festival, Latitude and Beautiful Days in the UK.

    Peter Paul & Mary - Puff The Magic Dragon

    3:28

    Puff The Magic Dragon
    Peter Paul & Mary

    Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
    and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.
    Little Jackie paper loved that rascal puff
    and brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff.
    Oh

    Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
    and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.
    Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
    and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

    Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
    Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail.
    Noble kings and princes would bow whenever they came.
    Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name. oh!

    Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
    and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.
    Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
    and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

    A dragon lives forever but not so little boys.
    Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
    One grey night it happened, Jackie paper came no more
    and puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

    His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain.
    Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
    Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave.
    So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. Oh!

    Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
    and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.
    Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
    and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

    SUN 405 Dane Stinit - Sweet country girl + That muddy ole river (1967 Country

    4:13

    Dane Stinit – Vocal
    Reggie Young – Guitar
    Mike Leech – Bass
    Gene Chrisman - Drums
    Bobby Wood - Keyboard
    More Details Unknown

    For his second, and final Sun session, Dane Stinit sounded a lot more like himself than Johnny Cash. Both of the tracks were released on Sun 405. ''Sweet Country Girl'' is a competent country record for that day and time. Commendably, it is under produced. These is no chorus, strings or social commentary. In fact, other than the Floyd Cramer-style piano riffs (courtesy of Bobby Wood), you'd barely know this record was produced in 1966

    This flipside ''That Muddy Ole River'' was written by Sun alumnus Gene Simmons. The song was worthy of a single release, although with Sun's faltering stature in the business, it is not surprising that there were few takers

    Dizzy Gillespie feat. Charlie Parker - A Night In Tunisia

    Join our Youtube:
    Join our Facebook:
    John Birks Dizzy Gillespie (/ɡᵻˈlɛspi/; October 21, 1917 – January 6, 1993) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer, and singer.
    AllMusic's Scott Yanow wrote, Dizzy Gillespie's contributions to jazz were huge. One of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time (some would say the best), Gillespie was such a complex player that his contemporaries ended up copying Miles Davis and Fats Navarro instead, and it was not until Jon Faddis's emergence in the 1970s that Dizzy's style was successfully recreated [...] Arguably Gillespie is remembered, by both critics and fans alike, as one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time.
    Gillespie was a trumpet virtuoso and improviser, building on the virtuoso style of Roy Eldridge but adding layers of harmonic complexity previously unheard in jazz. His beret and horn-rimmed spectacles, his scat singing, his bent horn, pouched cheeks and his light-hearted personality were essential in popularizing bebop.
    In the 1940s Gillespie, with Charlie Parker, became a major figure in the development of bebop and modern jazz. He taught and influenced many other musicians, including trumpeters Miles Davis, Jon Faddis, Fats Navarro, Clifford Brown, Arturo Sandoval, Lee Morgan, Chuck Mangione, and balladeer Johnny Hartman.

    Talking Back to the Night ~ Steve Winwood

    6:04

    Talking Back to the Night ~

    High above the heat of a summer New York street
    An out-of-work musician plays a solo saxophone
    He's a preacher and a teacher
    And he stands up all alone

    Stranded in the dark of a vision in the park
    A poet in his madness tries to find another line
    And he's losing and he's using
    And he says he's doing fine

    And they look from such a height
    That somehow it's all right
    They're talking back to the night
    It's all that they can do
    Talking back to the night
    It's how they make it through
    If you listen you can hear them
    Their voices draw you near them
    They're talking back to the night for you

    Something seems to take every dime the man can make
    His dream is getting smaller and he wonders where to turn
    And he's trying hard to make it
    And he's trying not to burn

    Woman never minds, pulls the shade and draws the blinds
    She takes him in the darkness where the loneliest can feed
    She gives him all she has to
    And it's no more than he needs
    ~~~
    The amazing talent of Steve Winwood has been reflected by his many years of quailty singing and song writing. At the age of 15 Steve became a member of the Spencer Davis Group, and he co-wrote and recorded Gimme Some Lovin' and I'm a Man before leaving to form Traffic with Chris Wood, Jim Capaldi and Dave Mason. During the late-1960s, Winwood and Mason became close friends of Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix first heard All Along the Watchtower at a party he was invited to by Mason; they recorded the Hendrix version later that night in a London recording studio.
    Steve formed Blind Faith in 1969 with Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Rick Grech. The band was short-lived, due to Clapton's greater interest in Blind Faith's opening act Delaney & Bonnie & Friends: Clapton left the band after the tour had ended. However, Baker, Winwood and Grech stayed together to form Ginger Baker's Air Force.
    With a number of amazing solo albums and wonderful musical relationships including working with: Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, T-Bone Walker, Howlin' Wolf, B. B. King, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Eddie Boyd, Otis Spann, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley, just to name a few...he continues bringing us wonderful new music. Watch for the release of a new studio album, Nine Lives, which is scheduled for release on April 29, 2008.
    Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 -- July 6, 1971), nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, was an American jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana.
    Coming to prominence in the 1920s as an inventive trumpet and cornet player, Armstrong was a foundational influence in jazz, shifting the focus of the music from collective improvisation to solo performance. With his instantly-recognizable gravelly voice, Armstrong was also an influential singer, demonstrating great dexterity as an improviser, bending the lyrics and melody of a song for expressive purposes. He was also skilled at scat singing (vocalizing using sounds and syllables instead of actual lyrics).
    Chuck Berry - Roll Over Beethoven
    Join our Youtube:
    Join our Facebook:
    Charles Edward Anderson Chuck Berry (born October 18, 1926) is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter and is one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. With songs such as Maybellene (1955), Roll Over Beethoven (1956), Rock and Roll Music (1957) and Johnny B. Goode (1958), Berry refined and developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive, with lyrics focusing on teen life and consumerism and music featuring guitar solos and showmanship that were a major influence on subsequent rock music.
    Born into a middle-class African-American family in St. Louis, Missouri, Berry had an interest in music from an early age and gave his first public performance at Sumner High School. While still a high-school student he was convicted of armed robbery and was sent to a reformatory, where he was held from 1944 to 1947. After his release, Berry settled into married life and worked at an automobile assembly plant. By early 1953, influenced by the guitar riffs and showmanship techniques of the blues musician T-Bone Walker, Berry began performing with the Johnnie Johnson Trio. His break came when he traveled to Chicago in May 1955 and met Muddy Waters, who suggested he contact Leonard Chess, of Chess Records. With Chess he recorded Maybellene—Berry's adaptation of the country song Ida Red—which sold over a million copies, reaching number one on Billboard magazine's rhythm and blues chart. By the end of the 1950s, Berry was an established star with several hit records and film appearances and a lucrative touring career. He had also established his own St. Louis nightclub, Berry's Club Bandstand. But in January 1962, he was sentenced to three years in prison for offenses under the Mann Act—he had transported a 14-year-old girl across state lines.
    1930s Mexican Border Radio Carter Family sings Motherless Children
    4:34
    The 1930s saw the rise of powerful radio stations along the northern Mexican border, out of the reach of U. S. authorities. Among the border radio performers listed in the vid was one Pappy Lee O'Daniel. Wilbert Lee Pappy O'Daniel parlayed his fame on border radio into two terms as Texas governor in '38 & '40. O'Daniel was part owner of XEAW The Crazy Crystal Laxative station in Reynosa. The character Pappy O'Daniel in the movie 'O Brother Where Art Thou, portrayed by Charles Durning, was based on the Texas Governor's time in border radio. O'Daniel was partly responsible for putting Bob Wills on the road to success and was so popular himself that in a 1941 run for the U. S. Senate seat from Texas, he defeated future President Lyndon B. Johnson, the only person ever to defeat Johnson in a political race.
    Besides selling goat gland ual enhancer and cancer cures, you could also have baby chicks shipped to your farm, get a horoscope, purchase GENUINE simulated diamonds, a plastic tablecloth depicting the Last Supper and even an autographed picture of Jesus Christ if you were gullible enough to send in the money to the radio preacher. If it pertained to health, , or religion, or better yet, a combination of all three, you could become wealthy on border radio. There were some products that were outright scams but according to listeners who bought and used Crazy Water Crystals the product was unbelievable. But, it seems only natural that the body would want to purge itself of something as toxic as those crystals.
    Many of the operators of the Border Blasters such as Dr.John Brinkley (the goat gland transplant doc) and Norman Baker (who could miraculously cure cancer) had been run out of business by U. S. Regulators only to see the hucksters re-emerge south of the Rio Grande even more successful than they ever could have dreamed in the U. S. now using the power of worldwide communication. XERA in Ciudad Acuna, which had a U. S. Post Office box address in Del Rio, Texas could be heard worldwide in its' million watt heyday.
    XEPN, sister station to XER and later XERA, both owned by Doc Brinkley, broadcast from Piedras Negras across the river from Eagle Pass, Texas. XET and XEG whose station ID is heard at the beginning of this vid transmitted out of Monterrey. XELO along with XEJ were based in Ciudad Juarez, across from El Paso. XENT and XEXO broadcast from Nuevo Laredo. XENT was owned by Norman Baker mentioned above.
    XERF in Ciudad Acuna, Couhila which was not connected with either XER or XERA, became the best known of the stations after WWII when Bob Smith walked into the studios and re-invented himself as Wolfman Jack~ he tantalized his listeners with funky rock and roll and the blues race music of Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins and Texas Alexander-music which would never be played on a U. S. station at the time. Listeners delighted in their secret Exotic X channels coming from a country that allowed just about anything on its' airwaves.
